What can I say? It’s not too often you can fulfill a wish like that? My 4 yr. old LOVES elephants. He has for as long as I can remember (okay, so some days I can’t remember last week, but you get it.) It was a huge pain in the ass to run all over and drive almost an hour (changing out of swim suit, stopping for gas, eating Wendy’s in the car, and not leaving the fair until an hour and a half past my kid’s bed time), BUT so worth it to see the smiles! We have been to the circus, where the elephants are always a hit, but this small town county fair show was awesome. A free show! And only $5 for the elephant ride…so you can ride twice even.
I hope it will be a treasured memory. It will be for me. My little one sometimes tells me how “perfect” it would be to have a sibling. Sure I feel guilty about that – it is after all with in my control, somewhat. But the great part about having “only” one is that it’s easy to justify satisfying every whim. The more kids you have the less time, money, and energy you have to give each one specifically. (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)
AND, since this is why I’m here…I didn’t “do” too bad. Yes, we ate fast food. I ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger plain and a small fry with a bottle of water. Enough food, easy to eat while you are driving 80 miles per hour…it could have been better, but it could have been a whole lot worse. After the ride I did indulge a bit with an elephant ear, but I shared it with my kid and my niece and ended up throwing half of it away…they just don’t keep well for later and who needs all of that sugar in the car?
The scale says I’m okay – no change, so I must have had enough water to flush out all of the drive-thru window sodium! Since I am on a roll, so to speak, I am finding it easier to make good choices so far today! Hopefully that can carry me through the weekend – we have a busy social calendar.
Spent some time at the gym this morning too. Took a yoga class and put in a mile on the treadmill. I am trying to work on strengthening my core. Yoga is great for that. Pre – child I took class twice a week, but the gym I go to now doesn’t have many class times and they never seemed to mesh with my schedule until I decided it was a priority (oh, and my year and a half long struggle with chronic tendonitis in my elbow is “fixed” so I can actually put weight on my arm.)
